Nia Long
Nia's life purpose...
The name "Nia" is one of the seven days of Kwanzaa, meaning "life purpose". Well, Nia Long has been quit busy fulfilling her life?s purpose. She has starred in hit movies Boyz 'N the Hood ('91), Friday ('95), Soul Food ('97), In Too Deep ('99), Stigmata('99), Big Momma's House ('00), and my personal favorites, The Best Man ('99) and Love Jones ('97)...just to name a few!
Believe it or not...
Betty A. Bridges, mother of actor Todd Bridges, started Nia?s career. Betty was her acting coach for 15 years. Her acting lessons paid off in 1990; she dropped out of college after two years, and started a role in John Singleton's Boyz 'N the Hood. She then worked in New York in Guiding Light for 3 years. In 1994, Nia moved back to LA to continue her success. She has appeared as Fresh Prince's girlfriend on the TV comedy Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She has also acted in movies such as The B.R.A.T. Patrol ('86), Buried Alive ('89), Made in America ('93), Butter -aka- Never 2 Big ('98), etc.
Nia's background...
Nia was born in Brooklyn, NY and moved to the Midwest in 1974 when she was 4 years old with her mother. At 6, she was the only black child at her school in Iowa City. Nia then followed her mom and moved to South Central LA 4 years later. She graduated from Westchester High School in 1989.
